What makes clomid more effective

Clomid does not increase your chances of pregnancy if you have infertility factors that are unrelated to ovulation, such as blocked tubes, uterine abnormalities, ovarian failure, pelvic lesions, certain male infertility factors, etc. One of the reasons doctors and their patients prefer Clomid is that it has reasonable success rates and minimal low-risk side effects. Those who do have side effects report bloating, nausea or headaches. Blurred vision and hot flashes have also been reported.

Very few women ever experience serious side effects from Clomid. Your physician or fertility specialist should closely monitor these cycles. Since Clomid results in the release of multiple eggs, your chances of having multiples twins or triplets…sometimes more goes up. Working with an experienced fertility specialist who prescribes the right dosage minimizes the risk of higher-order multiples. Did you know Clomid is available with a valid prescription through specialty pharmacies who exclusively support patients undergoing fertility treatments?

Success rates are highest when used to restore ovulation in PCOS patients. When applied correctly, it is an advantageous infertility drug that is simple, inexpensive, and effective. However, recently, Letrozole has replaced Clomiphene as the first-line drug for polycystic ovary syndrome patients due to an increased live birth rate. Clomiphene cycles are often prescribed because of the low cost.

Some physicians prescribe it without considering the individual circumstances of infertility. While some women with fertility problems will benefit from such random administration, many might only experience side effects!

Clomiphene is quite inefficient in women who have regular cycles and no problems ovulating eggs. Some benefits might exist at a higher dose mg daily. At a higher dose, Clomid can induce the ovary to mature multiple eggs in a single menstrual cycle. During such superovulation, a woman can ovulate multiple eggs compared to only a single egg during a natural period. Higher doses of Clomiphene should only be taken when monitored by ultrasound and might cause some side effects.

During superovulation, the chance of multiples typically twins but rarely triplets goes up. Unfortunately, many general practitioners do not perform ovarian ultrasound monitoring and only prescribe Clomiphene at a very low and inefficient 50 mg dose!

A quite common side effect is the thinning of the endometrial lining during therapy. This can become a problem once the embryo is ready to attach to the endometrial lining. Therefore, it is essential to monitor Clomid cycles with ultrasound and measure the endometrial thickness. If the endometrial lining is found to be thinned out, we recommend avoiding this treatment.

In some cases, additional vaginal estradiol can help restore the endometrial thickness. Switching to an alternative follicle-stimulating medication might alleviate this side effect. We frequently see women given low doses of Clomiphene citrate that do not induce the growth of multiple eggs but thin out the endometrial stripe.

In such cases, the woman is actually worse off than in a natural menstrual cycle. She did not gain any additional eggs and has only thinned out the endometrial lining. Patients not monitored with an ultrasound might be unaware of this side effect. Therefore, every serious fertility expert will always perform a transvaginal ultrasound in a Clomid cycle. We always want to document how many follicles developed and the endometrial thickness.

Common Clomid side effects include hot flashes, headache, blurry vision, mood swings, and can induce a change in cervical mucus.

Clomiphene works directly on the pituitary gland and also affects many tissues with estrogen receptors. This is in contrast to injectable gonadotropins like Gonal-F that targets primarily just the ovary. Therefore many patients will notice changes in their body during the Clomid cycle. Fortunately, none of these is a long-lasting side effect, and there are no long-term effects. While some concern was raised regarding ovarian cancer, there is no conclusive evidence that considerate use of Clomifen increases the risk.

Rarely, a patient can develop ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome OHSS. Such a condition needs immediate medical attention and is considered a severe side effect. Usually, these patients have high AMH levels.

The trigger shot provides the final maturation signal to the developing follicle and sets ovulation in motion. One of the biggest benefits to a trigger shot is the increased ability to correctly time intercourse at home or insemination in the office. The majority of patients will be instructed to administer their trigger injection between 6 and 10 p. Two days later, the IUI — if that is your planned method of insemination — will be scheduled at one of our 18 full service locations.

Intercourse on the night of the trigger shot is encouraged so that sperm is present in the reproductive track at the time of ovulation. Those patients using timed intercourse will be instructed to also have intercourse the day of the trigger shot and then again two days later.

Clomid treatment helps with the first part of the equation, developing an egg and inducing ovulation. The other part of the equation centers around getting the egg and sperm to meet.

With Clomid treatment, there are two common methods used to facilitate this introduction, with the most familiar to patients being timed intercourse. The second option is an intrauterine insemination IUI , which is usually done while under the care of a fertility doctor. During an IUI, a concentrated specimen of sperm is placed in the uterus.

The procedure is completed in the office and does not require sedation. An IUI may be needed if conception has not occurred due to mild sperm abnormalities or for unexplained reasons. Another side effect associated with Clomid is vaginal dryness that can make intercourse uncomfortable. Choosing a fertility-friendly lubricant such as pre-seed can help alleviate dryness and not negatively impact sperm. It is not, however, suggested to use many of the other over the counter personal lubricants as they can have a negative effect on the sperm.

Femara generic name Letrozole is another oral medication that can be used to induce follicular development. Femara works by suppressing estrogen levels, causing the brain and pituitary gland to increase the output of follicle-stimulating hormone FSH.

One of the major benefits of using Femara is the decrease of detrimental side effects, such as thinning of the endometrial lining and the risk of multiples. Femara supports more unifollicular development, allowing a single follicle to emerge as the dominate follicle that is ultimately ovulated. Since often times only one follicle develops, the chance of multiples is lower.
