Why theocracy is good
Crime within a theocratic society is often viewed as a sin and not as a wrong action. In a theocracy, this is the norm. Think about it like this. A Christian person knows that God commands people not to steal. While many people steal in a society where a Christian lives; that Christian individual will less likely steal anything because they know that it is a sin.
This is also true for the crimes of murder, assault, and rape. Again, these types of things do happen within a theocratic society. However, they happen at a lower rate than in a non-theocratic society. This is because law enforcement officials work together from the higher levels of government to the local community. If a theocratic ruler or ruling group is not doing the best job for their nation, their rule is often left unchallenged. Remember, theocratic rulers tend to be dogmatic and are seen as perfect rulers.
If they show some type of incompetence or make bad decisions, most people will not challenge them. To challenge a theocratic ruler or group is often viewed as questioning the deity that they represent. Since most theocratic citizens want to remain compliant, this is the last thing they want to do.
By the way, if a theocratic ruler or ruling group are blatantly doing wrong in their position; there is usually a process that can be put into motion to remove bad rulers out of their position.
However, it is not always easy for this process to be started and carried through. Another huge drawback of living within a theocratic society is intolerance. This is especially true for people who do not share the same religious beliefs as them. Keep in mind that religion is the key component of a theocracy. This is essential for a theocracy to work. If you have many differing religious views within a theocracy, then it will weaken the system.
This is one reason what immigration is not important to theocratic systems. They just do not want large populations of foreigners with different religious and cultural views residing inside of their borders. If this happens, it will change the fabric of their theocracy and create all sorts of division and social strife. Once again, theocratic societies are not purposely being intolerant they simply cannot afford to have their way of life jeopardized by allowing too many foreigners or different cultures in their land.
Minority groups are present in most countries including theocracies. The reason being is that there are always different cultural, racial, and ethnic groups within different regions of the world. Minorities within a theocracy are usually forced to assimilate to the main culture if not, they are usually sent away from the nation.
Once again, this is not necessarily being done out of racism or spite. A theocracy must protect its religious state from differing beliefs and cultural norms. If not, a minority group could draw a wedge within a theocratic system. This is why many minorities within theocratic systems have limited rights and sometimes they lose their citizenship. Theocratic governments are mindful of minorities but they will not allow them to have a foothold within their society or government.
Theocratic societies are extremely static. They rarely change or allow new innovations to impact people. Some members of a theocratic society might enjoy luxury goods and items that are found in other societies around the world; however, the vast majority of the population might not have access to these items. Changes in technology are usually slow within a theocratic society. This means that things such as cable TV, the internet, or even cellphones will be viewed as tools for increasing sin and noncompliance.
Many people would be fearful of using these things and being influenced by outsiders who use them. Theocratic societies also resist change in terms of new and innovative governmental ideas. They do not want any new or different system of government to influence their theocracy. This is one reason why you see many current theocratic states pushing back against outside influence or ideology.
They are mindful of the products, services, and outside influencers that try to enter their region. People who are speaking up and speaking out against the status quo are in danger of being imprisoned, deported, or even killed.
Concepts and rights such as freedom of speech are not tolerated within many theocratic societies. In short, the term theocracy undermines the use of more precise yet equally succinct descriptions of Islamic influence at the state level.
